The 2020 of Marchetti Company

A positive sign for Marchetti Company in 2020: innovation and changes for 2021.

With great pleasure, Marchetti talks about the last year, not only in financial terms, especially in terms of production. 2020 was an interesting year for the company which started with a production of tie rods and tensioners distributed in various countries, with great demand, especially in Europe and South-east Asia. The tensioners and tie-rods installed on the new marble gangsaw were about 15% more than last year, while the sale of spare parts exceeded 22% compared to 2019. Although it was the year marked by a health emergency that devastated the international economy by reducing world GDP by a double percentage index, Marchetti was able to face the emergency in terms of turnover and pieces produced.

To commend the collaborators’ work, I quote the words of Eng. Tiziano Boccomino, who told the year from the point of view of employees and production: "I have personally ensured that all anti-covid 19 measures were adopted every day. Often, at the entry time, I made sure that the workers' body temperature was adequate and that all PPE had been delivered regularly. Despite the atypical situation, we were able to deliver important orders such as in Egypt, Belgium, Poland, Brazil, and even China, which has not stopped buying tie-rods from us”. Eng. Tiziano Boccomino continues by saying: “I want to thank all who collaborated, from employees to suppliers and shippers because production stopped only for short moments, imposed by the government. Despite the covid-19 Marchetti continued to invest in research and development, creating the first graphene tie-rods (a great innovation for the stone industry) and the first sets of tie-rods were delivered to customers in Italy and other countries."

From the sales office, Marchetti registered a plus sign, under the direction of Mrs. Antonella Pietrelli who greatly managed her team. Mrs. Pietrelli, in this year in which trips and fairs have been canceled, has managed to reach every customer and in every corner of the world. Indeed, it was Pietrelli's idea to open the marchetti.live page and to participate in various online events, such as Stone SmartFair and Marmomac Restart Digital Fairs, which allowed the Marchetti team to reach all their customers and get in touch with the sales network. Antonella Pietrelli comments: "It was a great emotion to see our agents and customers eager to see us. It was equally exciting to see our technicians connected with us on video, through our LIVE page, while they were assisting with the marble gangsaw". And she adds: "Marchetti believes in technology, continuing to innovate. We are revolutionizing the way we do business, use digital platforms, and pay attention to the environment. We have opened the doors to graphene and new solutions that allow us to extend the life of our products.”

Finally, the CEO Arianna Marchetti declares: “A year that has put the whole of humanity to the test is over. Before the business we thought of all employees, suppliers, customers, and agents, taking care of everyone's safety. All this has rewarded us, none of our collaborators have suffered the negative effects of the covid. But there were also many exciting moments and I would like to mention one in particular: the general assembly of Confindustria Marmomacchine. All of us associates, together with the President and colleagues of the board of directors, wearing masks, were all there to say NO to covid and YES to life, while outside the dead were still counted, demonstrating that united humanity always wins over everything." And she concludes by saying: "We say goodbye to a difficult 2020 and welcome 2021 as a year full of health and great opportunities for our entire industry.”

Graphene Tie-rods

Boccomino44.jpg

Officine Marchetti presents the new Graphene Tie-rods on the market.

After years of study and research on corrosion, we are happy to present our graphene treated marble and granite tie-rods to the stone industry.

Graphene is a strong ally to reduce the effects of corrosion on the machinery of the stone industry. "We are ready to face new challenges", says Eng. Tiziano Boccomino, "we have a duty to bring to the market innovative products that respect the environment, limit waste, and extend the life of our products. We want to bring tangible benefits to our customers."

The Graphene treatment guarantees result far superior to the galvanizing frequently used today. Officine Marchetti recommends using graphene technology to protect machinery and tools, especially in the stone industry, which has a great deal of exposure to atmospheric agents and flocculants that irreversibly ruin expensive machinery.

Officine Marchetti is always at the disposal of colleagues and customers to share technologies and study innovative solutions together.

We believe in KNOW-HOW.

Responsible use of water

The Marchetti CTO Tiziano Boccomino: “Let's change processes and methods”.

AL7I3318.jpg

Eng. Tiziano Boccomino, in an interview with the journalist Thomas Cardinali of Talky Media Magazine, talks about the changes in production processes to avoid wasting water.

Water is the most precious commodity in the world! Today millions of people, unfortunately, cannot access even the drinking water, essential for survival. Large companies such as Marchetti must fight to reduce waste, become the spokesmen of a strong environmental message. After having equipped all employees and collaborators with a water bottle to reduce the consumption of plastic bottles, Marchetti has gone beyond modifying, in a significant way, the production process to reduce water waste to the minimum possible. Marchetti’s CTO talks about the news in this interview with journalist Thomas Cardinali.

TC: “Responsible drinking? I did not know that Marchetti had entered the alcohol market.”

TB: “No, we certainly don't sell alcohol at Marchetti Company (laughs, Editor's note). We are just worried about a nefarious and uncontrolled use of one of the most precious goods on Earth, the water. Consider that one out of nine people in the world does not have access to drinking water. In 2020 this is unacceptable and must lead us to make reflections. In the eighth edition of the World Water Forum, held in Brasilia, it emerged that by 2025 half of the world population will live in high hydrogeological stress areas. We have to change now; there is no more time!”

TC: "What can we do to solve the problem?"

TB: "The problem is not easy to solve, the world's greats meet periodically, we try to make strategic choices to reduce the lack of water: making processes efficient to mitigate the waste of water resources is a fundamental step. On the other hand, we must and can change our habits, especially in the company production process."

TC: “How you are planning toreduce water waste at Marchetti Company?”

TB: “Since the responsibility for the technical management of the Company is mine, I introduced a whole series of operating measures, we are committed to bringing out a culture aimed at avoiding unnecessary waste of water. We reviewed all the production processes, measured and calculated our water use, intervened with the replacement of old machinery with new ones, more modern, and less aggressive means towards the environment. We have evaluated the use of water only when it is necessary for our industrial processes. We have also installed timers for toilets and showers. Then there are bad habits, useless waste that we do every day through actions that we repeat cyclically in daily life. For example, I am thinking of the washing of vehicles and cars, and we must do it only when necessary.”

TC: “In addition to reducing water wastage, are these measures also decreasing costs?

TB: "Yes, absolutely, in addition to reducing waste, you also minimize significant business costs, if you pay the right attention. You see, if you respect the environment and manage companies to encourage sustainability, in the end, there is also a notable cost saving as well as you are feeling good about doing the right thing.”

TC: "Do you think that is enough to save the planet from rampant drought?"

TB: “It is certainly not enough, but it is a start! We want to trigger a virtuous mechanism, to be the switch that can activate a cultural change. We want the new generations to look at this primary good of our planet with a different view and respect. We, as a company and civil society, felt the need to do something."

TC: "Do you want to add anything else?"

TB: "Sure, drink responsibly!"

TC: "So, see you the next drink!"

Arianna Marchetti looks to the future

Arianna Marchetti changes the role and looks to the future: "I become the company's CIO to win new challenges".

foto A.M..jpg

Arianna Marchetti after 34 years as CEO of Marchetti changes her role becoming CIO with a more operational role wading to the challenges of the future for the family business and reveals her strategies. Marchetti is one of the most important and long-lasting companies in the Italian industry and with its hydraulic tensioners for stone working represents an excellence exported all over the world. Much of the merit of the success achieved in these years is from Arianna Marchetti, who since 1986 is at the head of the company as CEO. Now, after a change at the top of the management, the founder’s daughter Cesare has decided to play the role of CIO, a role of responsibility more creative and visionary than administrative. In an era in which action and immediacy in making decisions is increasingly important, Arianna Marchetti decides to go even further in the field to bring the company to the challenges of the future even in new and stimulating areas.

Interview by Thomas Cardinali of Talky Media Magazine to Chief Innovation Officer Arianna Marchetti.

TC: “How do you see yourself in the new role of Chief Innovation Officer after so many years as CEO?”

AM: “I have held the position of CEO for 34 years, I have faced many challenges, and I have seen generations go by, retired many employees, traveled the world and now comes a new challenge.”

TC: “Did you think of retiring?”

AM: “Absolute not. I wouldn't be able to stay without working and far from the company.”

TC: “Can you better describe your new role within Marchetti Tech?”

AM: “The role of the Chief Innovation Officer is to create new working groups, to do research and development.”

TC: “How do you plan to do it?”

AM: “First of all, let's start with the team. My idea is to give an opportunity to young people. My immediate commitment is to create a team of young people who can bring new energy.”

TC: “Do you believe so much in young people? Someone says they have no experience.”

AM: “Experience is undoubtedly essential, our goal is to improve things, invent new things, we need to dream, to create new processes, to give voice to young people means to live our time. When we have created projects, they will pass to the examination of the experienced team to evaluate the feasibility of the project.”

TC: “Do you already have something in mind?”

AM: “Of course, we start from the working method, we are thinking outside the box. The new team will have new workspaces, methods, and schedules. We have to break down the walls, close with certain convictions, with the repetition of useless meetings and reports. Giving space to expression means getting rid of the beliefs that lead us always to see things with the same eyes.”

TC: “Say more, what kind of orientation will your guide have with this new role? Are you financially results-oriented?”

AM: “I just told You that we have to break with the old patterns. We are planning to create new things, achieve a different level of experience, improve quality of life, making business more sustainable. Maximum respect for the environment is our beliefs, we only want to work with renewable energy, use new technology to pollute less, work in harmony and reach a level of serenity among all the employees.”

TC: “Does it seems a perfect project? Tell me instead of from a financial point of view?”

AM: “My method is straightforward when I develop a project. I never think about economic factors because money can undermine the result. We think about creating an excellent product or service, nothing more and then, believe me, the financial result is a consequence.”

TC: “In your role as Chief Innovation Officer, do you intend to dialogue with other companies or institutions?”

AM: “Yes, in the coming days, we are starting a whole series of meetings with universities and research institutes, to present some projects already outlined. We also have collaborations with other multinational companies with which we will develop joint projects.”

TC: “How will these projects be funded?”

AM: “Most of these projects are financed directly by our companies and by investment funds that believe deeply in our managerial skills.”

TC: “I wish you all the best, for your new assignment and I hope to interview you again.”

AM: “Thanks to you.”
